Given the continued COVID-19 pandemic, I have made the decision to provide only telehealth appointments for therapy, except in the instance of a crisis or emergent situation. Psychological Evaluations begin with a telesession and may include additional telesessions or in person testing with protective equipment. Telesessions are being recommended by the American Psychological Association, as this method will allow for continued care during an extended period of time where we are discouraged from in-person contact with those who are not immediate family. Telehealth appointments have been an option in a variety of healthcare settings for many years and there is substantial research that indicates its effectiveness for treating most mental health disorders. Many clients are quite satisfied with the process and find it easy to use once it is set up. I am also a published author in the area of teletherapy, so I feel confident providing this service to my clients.
In order to register as a new client or attend a telesession, please follow the link below to my patient portal:
If you are not successfully able to log in to the portal, or I emailed you a link and your link expires, please let me know and I will help you with troubleshooting. Once you log into the portal, please read and electronically sign the assigned documents. These include the patient registration form, billing policies, therapy consent form, and telehealth consent form. I also appreciate you completing the background form to allow me to better understand your history.
Completing a release of information for your current or recent providers allows for the best care. If you are okay with it, I would like to receive a release for your primary care provider, and, if applicable, your psychiatric and mental health provider. For children, it is often helpful to receive information from school and teachers. In order to allow me to communicate with school, please complete a release of information form to school. Paperwork
The patient portal utilizes the Healthcare Zoom app. It will prompt you to download Zoom, if you haven’t already done so. Zoom can be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, or computer that has a camera and microphone. Alternatively, I utilize a web application called Sessions as a backup which does not require the client to download anything. Please email me directly to gain access to this application- DrKing@bwcnebraska.com.
Please remember to engage in the session in a private location. If you do not have access to a private location in your home, or lack a telehealth-capable device, please contact me and we can problem solve this.
To attend the telehealth session, you will log into the portal (you may do so as early as 15 minutes prior to your session time) and you will be able to join the session from the dashboard. If I have not yet joined the session, it will state “waiting for your therapist to join.” Once we have both joined the session, we will see each other and be able to begin therapy. If there are any documents that you have that you would like me to see ahead of time, you can share them either through the therapy appointment portal or you can take a picture of them or scan them, and send them to me via email. Similarly, I may send you items via email or through the portal.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about insurance coverage and I will do my best to help. I suggest checking with your insurance company regarding coverage for therapy, psychological evaluations, and telesessions.
